Overview

This tour is Great for Bird Lovers!!!!!

British Columbia’s west coast is home to several birds that are only found in this part of the world, including the Pacific Wren, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Steller’s Jay, and Hutton’s Vireo, to name a few. The Vancouver area is a very important stop on the Pacific Flyway and is home to many wintering birds that make their way south to the Fraser River Delta.

More than 300 bird species have been recorded in the sanctuary, including Sandhill cranes, great blue herons, eagles, Northern Saw-whet owls, and many shorebird species.

Reifel Bird Sanctuary is well-known for the spectacular white snow geese that flock in great numbers during the migratory fall and spring months.

The sanctuary is made up of more than 800 acres of marshes, wooded areas, and wetlands, intersected by trails that connect the varying landscapes. It’s a resting spot for migratory birds, making it a perfect place to get an up-close look at several species, all in one place.

The predominant denizens are ducks and other waterfowl, naturally, but you would have never seen so many different types in one place. You’ll almost always see a heron in the marshes, finches, geese, swallows, other common birds, and huge sandhill cranes walk the pathway like they own the place. But during the right season, you can spot rarer species, including owls, eagles, and woodpeckers. Sometimes, they even have baby beavers.

The tiny chickadees could be your favorite. we can give you a bag of birdseed, hold out your palm, and these adorable little birds will fly over and eat right out of your hands. There is food for ducks and geese as well, and you can easily spend a few hours walking the paths and climbing the towers located throughout the sanctuary, for a special, bird’s-eye view of the landscape.
